Well haven't I been having fun? Sarcasm intended. Okay, it's not been all bad. Let's get the bad news out of the way first. Brandon decided to flush a toy down the potty. Alas, this is not our first foray into fixing a potty in our house. We've replaced our toilet approximately once a year since we've lived here. The last time, it was a new bar of soap that refused to disolve no matter how much hot water we tried to force down. It's looking unfixable at this point and now we are going to have to call in a plumber to tear open the lines and fish out the toy. It's going to cost $150. We have a second potty, so the Roto Rooter man is going to have to wait a few more weeks.
Now on to the FUN stuff! Tommy's nurse started with us Monday evening. She's a great lady and I love her already. More important, so does Tommy. Her first day here, within the first few minutes, she let me know up front that if she's going to be able to take care of Tommy, he has to be comfortable with her. Alone. Good point! He's spent 16 months with nothing but mommy-mommy-mommy and it's going to be rough to be with someone new. So I gave it roughly 45 minutes that we were both in the room while she interacted with him and then I left for another part of the house. He did well! So well, that instead of leaving at the time we had discussed, she offered to stay with him so Rob and I could take the big kids out. She said he did cry when he woke up from his nap, scared and confused, but it only lasted 5 minutes. He also got to see that yes, Mommy and Daddy DO come back!
More good stuff....can you stand it? Tonight I made myself an ice cream float. I didn't want to get any ice cream on my computer, so I set the cup with the spoon in it on the floor near my feet. A few minutes later, I hear a noise. I look down to see that Tommy has managed to navigate the 3 or 4 feet between us to get his brand new toy! He's banging away on the bottom of the cup with the spoon. I got out my camera and a miracle happened on film. Here it is!

YAY TOMMY!!!!!!! What awesome news that he likes the nurse and that you and your hubby got to take the older boys out. And how cool that he managed to get your spoon. hehe! He looks so happy!
Too bad about the toilet. But that's not 1/2 as bad as what I was expecting when I saw that your post included "bad" news. So glad that your family is doing well and hope you get your 2nd toilet working soon.
Dear Rene,
I do hope that Tommy can grow out of - or get healing treatment for - his swallowing problem!! I have a good story for you - I was born in 1954, with what they later figured out was a Single Ventricle Heart & then got Pulmonary Hypertension. The first cath was when I was 2. I almost died a few times, the first from pneumonia at 4 months. But - here I am! I survived long enough to get a heart/double lung transplant in 2000, when I was 45.
I know it will not be an easy life for tommy, or for you, but he CAN make it through the pain & frustration. Good luck to you and to Tommy.
BTW, I didn't meet another person with CHD until I was 38 years old.
